The advantages of these coatings are that they will not alter the look of a building which is particular good for historical buildings and they are inexpensive whilst offer good protecting from Graffiti so that aggressive methods of Graffiti Removal are not necessary.
Non-Sacrificial Anti Graffiti Coatings
Non-Sacrificial or Permanent Anti Graffiti Coatings are generally more expensive and much more durable coatings. They are designed to be applied just one time and durable enough to handle multiple removals or many years of service life before they would need to be re-applied. They often will only require a simple solvent and some elbow grease to remove the Graffiti whilst preserving the both the coating and the surface which the coating has been applied to.
The materials used in the manufacture of these types of coatings include polyurethane, fluoridated hydrocarbons or siloxanes. The disadvantage of these types of coatings is the costs. They can be much more expensive than the simple sacrificial coatings, they can also be more difficult to apply and they generally are more visible than Sacrificial Coatings and form more of a surface film when applied which alters the appear of the surface to which it is applied. This can be undesirable especially on historic buildings.
